Will people watch video on the Internet?
When asked, most experts suggest not. They say that the infrastructure of the Internet is too slow. On-line video is too unreliable. And the screen — well, it’s just too small and fuzzy, and the playback too jerky. It’s absolutely painful to watch.

Entrepreneurs stand to get sideswiped by a new levy that will boost the cost of recording materials, including recordable CD-ROMs, known as CD-Rs.
The federal government has given the green light to a levy on “recordable media,” based on the premise that the material is used to record music, thus depriving artists of their royalties. (more…)

I’m typing this article as I fly back on a chartered Twin Otter from C’oure d’Alene, Idaho, where I just gave a keynote address to the Petroleum Landmen Association of Canada about the strategic potential of the Internet.
Huge numbers of new digital technologies are affecting every industry. The challenge for senior executives is understanding how a particular technology may affect their sector, particularly when hype and hysteria accompany reports of new developments.

Two of TV’s most buzzed-about young heroines — one new, one returning — appeared this week, offering a welcome respite from all the shrieking, schizoid “adult” females who dominate the tube. If only “Felicity,” The WB’s too-adorable college frosh whose show is supposed to be fall’s one surefire hit, could spend a semester learning from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” then maybe we’d have some real girl power. I saw the movie “The Gladiator” last week. Ordinarily I wouldn’t have sought out something so violent, but someone had recommended it, saying it was a really good story. Then, too, I love the history of ancient Rome, much of which, unfortunately, is violent. And, finally, “Braveheart” had its gruesome moments but remains one of my all-time favorite movies because of its theme of integrity. (more…)
Feeling scared but intrigued, she gave it a shot. Burr stopped running her business totally at the convenience of her clients and started reading, having massages, seeing movies, shopping for herself, taking a yoga class, even watching Oprah if the mood hit her. The results? A less frazzled head at the top of her business. No lost clients — they all took it in stride. Last year when I reached a significant birthday, I celebrated in a slightly offbeat way for me. Instead of one big blow-out party with friends and family, I decided to honor all the years of my life by doing something different — something I don’t often do.
